CONTRIBUTION TO LITERATURE AND ART 

Music

  • Participated in the Lama Pitiya Children’s Radio program playing the violin at 11 years
  • In 1988 won 1st place in the all-island school drama competition, presented as a violinist in the orchestra of the Vessantara drama
  • The first three songs wrote and composed for children were telecast on Rupavahini in 1996 at the Gee Kekulu Program
  • A collection of ten new songs named “Samanala Sihina” was telecast on the Sirasa Television Channel’s Punchi Panchi weekly program from April 2008
  • A music YouTube channel (ND Production), https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCszlY7VchZU9859JHWvS3BQ was launched in 2022 for children

Writing

Started developing articles for newspapers in 1992 with a story for the cover page of Mihira, a children’s newspaper published by the Lake House, and since then published many articles in newspapers like the Divaina, Rivira, and Sunday Observer on the subject areas of positive thinking, changing attitudes, and counselling for the past 30 years.

Authored children’s storybooks named “PUCHI WELENDA,” “PUTHAI AMMAI” (Son and Mother), and “MINIGEDIYA” (The Cow Bells) in 2005. “PUNCHI WELENDA” won 2nd place at the State Service literature competition conducted by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in 2004. “Son and the Mother” and “The Cow Bells” have been selected as school library books, translated into English and Sinhala in the same year.

Authored, “A Beautiful Life” (Lassana Jeewithayak) – 2008 is a practical Health Science book for school children in Grade 6 and 7 (Translated to English and Sinhala)

Authored, “Little Library” (Singithi Poth Gula) - 2009 is a practical book for children to learn library science and improve their reading habits and creative thoughts.

Authored a children’s storybook named “Lassana Heta Dawasak” (Beautiful Tomorrow) to be distributed in the event of Deyata Kirula held in 2012. The book was published by Inland Revenue, Sri Lanka. The story aimed to change the attitude of the children to become voluntary taxpayers in future. Tamil translation of the same was done in 2017.

Authored, “Booti" (A Little Elephant) – 2018 is a story between a boy and a baby elephant that talks about the power of friendship.

Authored, Aththamma Leda Wela (Sinhala) (2022), A story of a girl, who is very determined.

Authored, Grandma is sick (English) (2022), A story of a girl, who is very determined.

Authored, The Bees (Sinhala) (2022), An incident between Max and the bees. The story tells how bees are important to our lives.

කළුපාන් (2023) අන්තිමේදී තමන්ට දැනෙන කරදර වේදනා ඉවසගෙන සතුටු වෙන්න කළුපාන් සිතුවා.

Blackbeard (2023) Finally, Blackbread decided to be accept the pain and suffering he was experiencing.


Translations

OKAVANGO, a thirteen-episode wildlife series for children, telecast weekly over the Sri Lanka Rupavahini channel in 1996 (English to Sinhala script translator)

A manual (A handbook- English) on the 5S concept into Sinhala in collaboration with JASTICA in 2008.


SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Founder/ Secretary - Children’s Upliftment Programme (CUP), 2004, (www.cupsl.org), registered at the Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka, started to enhance the education and creative skills of children in Sri Lanka.

Being a member of the Rotary Club of Colombo Reconnection in 2006, started an IT Learning Centre in 2006 at Vidyanivasa Maha Pirivena, Walpola, Ragama to enhance the knowledge of IT among the clergy, both local and foreign, who are residents there.

Volunteered to the Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA) as a guide to the Voice of Children (VOC) project in 2007.

Awarded as a social worker, with V award - 2011, a program conducted by United Nations.
